IF:GLOW

Happy Holidays All!!!

Well it has been an exceptionally busy last few months and my posts dropped off and I haven't made my way around to any of my favorite blogs.  Thank you Cindy D. for getting me back on here! I am hoping I will have some time to catch up here during my holiday break!

This is the Holiday card I sent out to all those near and dear to me.  Rather than the "angel" I usually design, I was inspired by my exceptional son for this one.  He makes everything glow!

I made over 50 of them all are prints that I then add hand coloring to
(Gold and silver paint on the stars and highlights)

I am including a pic of some ready
to go out and my inspiration. Reid! (link to his blog)

What every you celebrate I hope it is truly magical!

IF: Tree

"The Juniper Tree" inspired by Brother Grimm story. (ink, oil, colored pencil on a mouse pad)
This is an illustration from a couple years back, but I wanted to be sure I posted this week.  It seems the amount of work I have on my plate is again overflowing.  All good stuff, illustrations for a book, a commission, a small coming show, my full time faculty position, solo parent stuff like flag football, play rehearsal (he got his first speaking part!! he is over the moon excited), and the tenants in my duplex moved out so I am busy prepping that space for rental as well.. I love the topic this week, so I hope to do a new one (I just might get to it) but in the meanwhile I am happy to revisit this one, to make certain I don't miss another IF week!

IF: HAUNT

Happy Halloween Everyone!!
I thought about doing another before decided on this one for my post for the week.. but I think with costume finalizing and all the business of the week, I would go ahead with this.

This is a digital manipulation of an original ink sketch on toned paper I did, the full render is in another post on this blog.

I love working with my drawings digitally afterward, so much experimentation potential without the fear of working on the original, reminds me of what I like about traditional printmaking, you can always try something else in the next print.

IF:Sky

I'm back, I have had a number of busy weeks that kept me from posting or checking in on IF posts, I am looking forward to catching up on all that you fellow illustrators have been up to. If you want to see some pics from my events last weekend I did post a thank you on my other blog aliciago.blogspot.com.

This drawing for sky is not completely new, I began it a few weeks back for a meeting to discuss the book I am currently illustrating. It is not complete and that large empty space is allowing for book text to come in later.  Anyway I thought it would work as a great transition image as I get myself back in the IF Swing so to speak.

Thanks for stopping by.

If:Book

I actually created this just last weekend for a good friends birthday celebration.  He is a librarian so the book theme fit him well, and now here it is as the IF theme.

So happy to have drawings overlap with two shows happening in just two weeks! (for info on that please check my other blog)

In my imagination you are having tea with me.

I imagine her having tea him.
He (the drawing) is life size and will be hangin' out on stage
in the junkshop I am illustrating for the 12th of October ArtNight here in Pasadena.

IF:tall

Illustration Friday prompt: Tall
My son once said to me " Our House is the Tallest and Most Colorful in Town" Although this is not true (if you have looked through my other blog you can see what our house actually looks like in my autohomography series), I loved the notion and was immediately reminded of his statement when I saw the prompt for this week.

I thought I would also share the process sketch this week as I truly debated whether or not to add color... I like the ink sketch.
(final is ink and colored pencil on toned paper)

IF:teacher

AHHHHH! I got Mrs Monster for my second grade teacher!!!!

So this week as a teacher myself, from a family of teachers, and with my son starting second grade on Wednesday, I considered a touching portrait... but then my son started a new comic yesterday and asked me to do the same.. I started "Creature Campus" This little guy was in one of the classroom scenes from behind and I wanted to see the front of him.

Silly fun for this week.

IF: LOST

people and things I have lost.

My first thought with the prompt was quite somber, thinking about the feeling of lost.
But as the weekend came and went, my idea evolved.

Trivial items came to mind and significant losses of people I have loved.
The illustration includes both with items representing all of those people and things I have lost.

I am looking forward to seeing how others dealt with this topic, I have not yet visited any IF blogs.

IF:Suspend

Illustration Friday prompt Suspend.

I had considered a tightrope walker in my personal balance series (see my other blog)
I hadn't yet attempted it and thought this topic was a perfect opportunity.

IF: Refresh

IF: Refresh....
6.5 x 10 inches (Ink and Colored Pencil on toned paper)
I thought about using the whale image that is in process and another post here on this blog, but I am trying to create new work for these weekly challenges.  So here it is Refresh.  (I remember times when my toddler son would choose a 5 gal bucket over the pool in the backyard for a quick refresh and myself noticing that warning on every bucket that we always chose to ignore, although I never let him dive in, per the warning:)

IF: Capable

"I can do this"
9"x13" paint drawing on paper on wood.

This is a drawing from a balance series of last fall, however it fits the challenge so nicely that I thought it the perfect opportunity to jump back in to Illustration Friday challenges.
