IF:Suspend
Illustration Friday prompt Suspend.
I had considered a tightrope walker in my personal balance series (see my other blog)
I hadn't yet attempted it and thought this topic was a perfect opportunity.
There is so much to like in this picture! I love the whole composition and crosshatched textures, and the way you've brought out the central figure in her yellow dress, but the use of the brown foundation and lighter highlights amazes me - such an ideal technique for this poignant, meaningful picture.
Wow Ian, thank you so much for the thoughtful response. This one has been floating in my head for a while and I so enjoyed getting it out. Thank you, your comments are very much appreciated!
Beautiful! Like the other folks said. I just love that spot of yellow and the lovely line work. Also the great perspective! So well done. (I'm pretty bad at perspective, which is why most of my beasts are directly from the side.) :)
Thank you Cindy, I teach perspective more often than any other class it seems and my love for playing with it has grown tremendously over the past few years.
This is a great piece! Interesting that tightrope walkers have been in the news lately. It looks like the woman is perhaps on her clothesline? I applaud her, wearing her bright yellow dress and tightrope walking instead of hanging out wash! Lovely line work.
I will have to check out the tightrope walkers in the news, I haven't seen or heard, but that's not saying much as my only news time is in the car with NPR to and from work:)
Thank you for your comments, I like the idea of the clothesline, that would be me on the line rather than hanging things from it.
She is wonderfully fearless in her pretty yellow dress--just excellent line work, composition and POV. This is a very effective illustration. I really like it!
Fearless, I love that. Thank you so very much, I respect your thoughts very much. You were one of the first people I discovered via IF and I love your work!

DeleteI love this. The line work and colours are wonderful. Really great piece :)
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Hannah! I had a lot of fun with the lines and really worked to restrict myself in color with this one.

DeleteThis is beautiful. I love the color scheme and the detail you put in that background building.
ReplyDeleteThank you for stopping by and leaving a comment. That happens to be the back view of my strange house and my equally strange back yard:)
