When I sat down to think about what I might draw for this topic, I grabbed a large pad of bristol paper, a no. 2 pencil and I looked up and the small tattered disco ball I have had hanging in my front window caught my eye.

Illustration Friday Topic: Animal

This week has been a tough one.

My Grandmother at the age of 99.5 passed away peacefully in her sleep.  Although our family knew this was coming as over the last few weeks her body has been slowing. Spread out as we are, each are dealing with it in our own ways. My mother and sister were able to be there with her, for which I am grateful.  In that I am not able to be physically with my family, I haven been mourning her loss and reflecting on her amazing life here at home. 

She made the most beautiful "wycinanki" Polish cut paper. So this morning as I woke, I decided to meditate on her by creating one of my own in tribute.

This is all hand cut, I am including one shot below that give you an idea of scale and process. I hope she is smiling.

It has been a month since I have found time for an Illustration Friday Topic. But here we go, last night after working off the Halloween induced sugar buzz... I found some time to draw/paint this.

October is here tomorrow. I have been busy with so very many things, but this little monster provides a fun break from all of it. One of my current projects is illustrations for a dia de los muertos photobooth and with that in mind. this happened.

Each little creature here is drawn and then cut out, that monster is naked underneath. I have been working on paper doll clothes for him and to hang with these guys he needed a skeleton suit.

In relation to the Illustration Friday Topic:
I have titled this piece "Reachin' for my prize"
